Maintenance Person

THE ROLE

The successful candidate will take joint responsibility with the Registered Manager to ensure that Farthings is maintained to a high standard and ensure that the property is a safe environment for the residents and staff, conforming to the requirements as laid out under the Health and Safety legislation.

You will need to:

  • Ensure the property remains in a safe and structural condition and that all utilities are fully operational.
  • Ensure all equipment is well maintained and in good working order.
  • Refurbish all areas on a rolling programme of works (decorate bedrooms, shared areas and corridors, apply silicone, tile grout, replacing tiles, hang curtains or blinds).
  • General maintenance person duties including basic plumbing (adjusting TRVs, tightening valves, replacing sink wastes etc), electrical (replacing lightbulbs and fittings, PAT testing) and joinery (replacing locks, doors, handles etc) work.
  • Complete Health and Safety checks throughout the home (fire alarm testing, water temperatures, etc).
  • Maintain the gardens (application of weed killer, planting of flowers, sweep leaves etc).
  • Work alongside the Registered Manager in completion of maintenance log.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Self-motivated, able to work under your own initiative and have a good standard of record keeping.

Above all, you need to be team player who takes pride in your work and is committed to maintaining a safe, comfortable environment for our residents.

 

Experience and qualifications:

  • Prior experience of working in a similar role within a care home would be advantageous.
  • Relevant Health and Safety qualifications would be desirable. (full training will be provided)
  • Basic plumbing, electrical and joinery skills are required.
  • Should be willing to work outside of normal working hours to suite the needs of the home and in emergency situations.

Successful applicants are required to provide an enhanced DBS and sign up to the update service.

 

We are looking to cover 10 hours per week (2x 5-hour shifts), this will ideally be 09.30-14.30.  Salary is £8.91-£10.50 per hour (dependant on experience)

As a Care Assistant at Farthings, you will provide person centred care and support our residents to maintain their independence, this will include supporting with personal care, at mealtimes and during activities as well as offering emotional support.

Previous experience caring for the elderly would be advantageous, ideally you would have a minimum NVQ2 in Health & Social Care and Care Certificate or be willing to work towards. Full training will be given.

Successful applicants are required to provide an enhanced DBS and sign up to the update service.

As this as a bank position days and hours are negotiable, you decide when you can work.  Shifts can be pre-planned on the rota or picked up as and when through our electronic staff rostering app.  The hours available will be shift work including weekends and bank holidays. We pay staff breaks, overtime rates for all bank holidays (1.5x or 2x) and provide a workplace pension.

 

Salary: £9.99 / Hour (£8.91/hour + £1.08/hour casual worker holiday pay supplement)

 

COVID-19 Considerations:  The Home does not have any symptomatic or positive cases of COVID-19. Sufficient stocks of PPE are available, face masks are to be worn at all times, with the exception of staff breaks.  Three times per week coronavirus testing is in place for all staff.  All staff can access a coronavirus vaccine.
