We Care into the Future Health & Social Careers Event - Retford

We were delighted to be invited to join forces with Nottinghamshire County Council and the Cygnet Group at the 'We Care into the Future Health & Social Careers Event - Retford'.  The event was aimed at inspiring the next generation of health & social care workers within the local community.  We saw over 500 pupils from four local schools.

On the stand there were frailty stimulation glasses, a hand wash training station with the UV lightbox and a Sara Steady transfer aid.  Students were able try on the frailty stimulation glasses which led to a lot of surprises and students commented "oh my Grandad/Grandma has cataract I didn't realise this is how bad it is for them" and "how would you get out and about?".  There were some surprises at how dirty students hands were when utilising the UV lightbox!  Students were also able to support each other in and out of the Sara Steady aid and rate how good their friend was at supporting them.

React To Home Rounds

React To Home Rounds

Many of you will remember back in May 2022, our Registered Manager, Lynne, was busy working with lots of colleagues from the local CCG and NHS as well as the private sector.  Collectively working towards a goal of improving care for people cared for in Care Homes.

Lynne was working with our local healthcare professionals to develop React To Home Rounds training package.  We are delighted to announce that the React To Home Rounds is now live.  React To Home Rounds is being rolled out across Nottinghamshire https://reactto.co.uk/resources/react-to-home-rounds/ .  React To is a care home specific training resource which is developed by healthcare professionals.  For more information on the “React To” training please see their website www.reactto.co.uk.

At Farthings we have found a weekly, remote, multidisciplinary home round, to be extremely beneficial for our residents.  It enables all healthcare professionals to discuss every resident in the home collectively creating a holistic approach.  Previously lots of phone calls were made to various healthcare professionals, taking a lot of time away from residents.  Scheduled weekly meetings means that reviews can take place and non-urgent medical concerns can be raised.  Due to these meetings taking place virtually via video, video consultations can take place with the resident and relevant professional when required.  Of course, this approach does not replace urgent medical needs.  But a remote home round certainly aids healthcare needs and access to medical reviews promptly.  Furthermore, our relationships with our healthcare professionals developed further due to the regularity of such meetings.  This gives the care team the confidence to raise ‘thoughts’ or ‘observations’, with the wider healthcare team.

On 4 May 2022 we were delighted to welcome a film crew into the home to capture some footage for the React To Home Rounds training package.  A huge thank you to our wonderful residents many of whom featured in our filming and to our Deputy Manager, Louise, for supporting with the filming and of course her acting skills!

Please have a look at the training package and see if you can pick out any familiar faces!!
